"He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’" - Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
Reflection:
Summer vacation offers a unique opportunity to pause from our usual routines and refresh both body and spirit. It’s a season when we can embrace rest more intentionally and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, all while deepening our relationship with God.
Taking time for vacation can be a gift of rest that allows us to step away from the busyness of daily life. During these times, we have the chance to reflect on the blessings and gifts God has provided, and to enjoy the beauty of creation. This change of pace helps us reconnect with what truly matters and renew our spirits.
Yet, rest is more than just physical relaxation. It’s also a time to be spiritually present, to be still and recognize God’s sovereignty in our lives. By setting aside our everyday concerns and distractions, we make space to hear God’s voice and experience His peace more profoundly.
Practical rest during vacation means creating moments for quiet reflection and prayer amidst the activities. Whether it’s a walk in nature, a moment of stillness on the beach, or reading Scripture, these moments can draw us closer to God and remind us of His presence and care.
Additionally, summer vacation can be a reminder to slow down and appreciate the rhythm of life that God intended. By aligning our schedules with times of rest and rejuvenation, we honor God’s design for balance and well-being. We recently went on a vacation and it was so rejuvenating to get up early and watch the sunrise. Sometimes some or one of the kids went with me but I also went by myself. I love the stillness of the mornings!
As you enjoy your summer vacation, remember to take moments to be still and know that God is with you. Let this time of rest renew your heart and mind, and allow it to be a season of spiritual growth and deepened trust in God’s plan.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of rest and the opportunity to enjoy a break from our routines. Help us to be still and recognize Your presence in our lives. May our summer vacation be a time of renewal and spiritual growth, and may we return refreshed and more aware of Your constant care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
